osmium umiac - passage
This album was created almost completely with an NS Design upright electric bass. Additional instruments on 'Turtle Feet' and 'Return' include a (t)rusty Japanese Fender Squier Venus guitar, and a kindly loaned 60s precision. 'Empty Pass' includes a field recording done by a generous friend in Seattle. The album was recorded and produced in the Austin home studio.
The tracks are improvised within constraints, and in a layered manner. As I played each layer of the piece I could watch the waveform of the previous parts as they scrolled on the computer screen. This leads to a sort of prescient improvisation that can't happen outside of the studio (yet?). The most that was written down of any of these pieces was perhaps a few sentences or a chart on some graph paper.
Also check out the seriously low budget video for 'passage II'. We will try putting a better quality version up here once we see what bandwidth is limping like.
Some of these tracks have a few seconds silence as a lead in, give them a second before you go all clicky clicky on it.
